Organisationstructure
There are two major flockbook organisations for Texel sheep in the Netherlands, the Nederlands Texels Schapenstamboek (NTS) and the Texels Schapenstamboek Noord-Holland (TsNH). The aim of these organisations is in a close cooperation the improvement of the purebred Dutch Texel. Registered purebred Texel sheep are bred by rules and guidelines of these organisations.
The Dutch Sheep Breeders Organisation NSFO is responsible for the excecution of the practical work. The TsNH is active in the province North-Holland (including the island Texel), the NTS is active in the other eleven provinces of the Netherlands.

The major activities of the Texel Flockbooks are:
1. identification and registration;
2. judgement of conformation;
3. determination of breeding goals;
4. establishing and running of breeding programs
5. calculating breeding values for littersize and growth;
6. publishing breeding information;
7. organising shows;
8. good education;
9. mediaton for sale and purchase;

Identification and registration (I&R)
In the Netherlands, sheep get two eartags. Since 2010, these eartags are 'electronical' (they contain a chip with the unique ID of the animal). The registration of the sheep is supported by the computersystem NSFO-online, managed by the NSFO.
